Eye care questions —answered
How do I find an eye doctor near me in Canada?
FYidoctors has over 270 clinics across Canada, making it easy to find an eye doctor near you. Use our location finder to search by city or postal code, then book an eye exam online at the clinic closest to you. For the best experience and to secure your preferred appointment time, we recommend booking in advance. If you need same-day care, contact your nearest clinic to inquire about availability.
How much does an eye exam cost in Canada?
Eye exam costs in Canada vary by province, patient age, and whether the exam is covered by provincial health plans (for children, seniors, and certain medical conditions). FYidoctors offers direct insurance billing in-clinic and transparent pricing — visit our insurance benefits page to learn how your plan applies.
How often should I get an eye exam?
Most adults should have a comprehensive eye exam every 1–2 years, while children, seniors, and anyone with a vision prescription or eye health condition should be seen annually. Regular eye exams can detect early signs of glaucoma, macular degeneration, and other conditions before symptoms appear.
What's the difference between an optometrist and an eye doctor?
In Canada, "optometrist" and "eye doctor" are often used interchangeably. An optometrist is a licensed eye care professional (Doctor of Optometry) who performs comprehensive eye exams, diagnoses eye conditions, and prescribes glasses and contact lenses. FYidoctors clinics are led by Canadian-licensed optometrists.
Does FYidoctors offer walk-in eye exams and optical services?
Some FYidoctors locations may be able to accommodate walk-in visits for eye exams and optical services, including frame selection, lens fittings, and contact lens consultations, depending on same-day availability. Availability varies by clinic and cannot be guaranteed. To secure your preferred appointment time, we recommend booking online or contacting your nearest location before visiting. With more than 270 locations across Canada, finding an optometrist or optical store near you is easy.
Can I buy contact lenses and glasses online in Canada?
Yes. FYidoctors offers contact lenses online with free shipping on eligible orders, plus a subscription option that saves 10% on your first order. You can also shop prescription glasses online, including designer frames from Ray-Ban, Oakley, Tiffany, and more.
